Hi all,
I was hoping to get some advice. My wife and I are doing one of those Mexico cruises with her family in a couple of weeks and we'll be hitting the following ports: Cabo, Mazatlan, Zihuatenajo, Puerto Vallarta and Acapulco. Our group will probably charter a cruiser out of Cabo for some fishing but I also thought I might try to get in some kayak fishing. Is there good inshore fishing within an easy paddle at any of the ports? We have 8 hours or less in each port so no time to venture very far afield. Any thoughts/advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Ron |

We just did a similar cruise to this one and my advice is to stay in the ports and try to set something up that is associated with the cruise ship. They have all kinds of good options and you don't have to deal with the insanity of the crowds of "salesman" that line the only walking paths in and out of the city. People that I spoke to that waited and utilized the street vendors for fishing rather than something associated with the cruise paid just about the same amount of money, ended up wasting a bunch of time in port AND said that they were really concerned about making it back to the ship on time. If you don't make it back to the ship on time, the boat really will leave and you will be responsible for however it is that you find to get home. It obviously works for most people, but it would put a concern in the back of my head all day that would probably be worth the extra few bucks to not have. The boat that we went on had some in-port excursions which provided kayaks but no fishing gear. You can look up all of the different trips associated with the cruise on the cruiseline's website most likely.
Biggest tip of all...be careful and be smart. Stick to the popular areas and even then, don't let your guard down. I lost a friend just before the new year down there to the insanity that is Mexico now-a-days and turns out that the lead investigator on the case has subsequently been murdered as well. The dangers are real, even/especially for those on vacation.
Have fun and looking forward to seeing what you end up pulling on! And be sure to post what you ended up setting up. Cruises can be cheap vacations and it would be great to work out some ideal fishing situations in some of these ports. Cheers |

| In Cabo, you can fish the arches (the famous rock formations) from a kayak. Launch after the fishing boats have left the harbor, about 8am. Must wear a PFD. Plastic works well on the yellowtail... if the wind comes up be ready to head back in!! |

I just want to reiterate dorado50's point about the wind in Cabo. When the wind picks up, it will take you out into the middle of the Sea of Cortez if you're not paying attention. So just be sure to keep an eye on your distance from shore. Good luck, have fun, and share pictures when you get back! _________________ Find the Best Fishing Kayak, Sit On Top Kayak, Inflatable Kayak or Touring Kayak at Kayak Review |
